GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Technical Manager provides leadership for all manufacturing on the technical activities at the Bushy Park facility. This includes all process control, quality control, and quality assurance functions. This position has key responsibility for raw material selection and quality, formulations and recipes, setting of standards, maintaining customer satisfaction and managing site complaints, and ensuring site attainment for continuous improvement and budget goals with liaison with Technology and R&D groups.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The specific responsibilities of the Technical Manager, while not limited to include:

  • Responsible for the quality of all product manufactured, which includes dry color, presscake, functional materials, and preparations.
  • Act as the chief liaison for customer interface support, sales, technology, applications labs, and customer business units.
  • Responsible for all quality control, quality assurance, and process improvement functions.
  • Initiates action to prevent the occurrence of non-conforming products.
  • Initiates, recommends or provides solutions through designated channels to resolve problems of non-conformity, verifying the implementation of same.
  • Controls further processing/delivery of non-conforming product until the deficiency has been corrected or waived.
  • Responsible for maintaining a working environment that is safe and not injurious to health in those areas under their responsibility by the establishment of safe working practices, adequate safety training of their subordinates and ensuring lab testing equipment is maintained in safe, operating condition. Continually promotes attention to safe behavior and practices.
  • Provides technical support on all projects impacting the site by teaming with other departments and participating in an active review process.
  • Ensures effective operations and drives manufacturing performance in areas of quality and financial goals.
  • Ensures customer complaints are investigated and that corrective action (if identified) is adequate and effective to resolve the issue and prevent recurrence and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Works with Technology and Regulatory staff to ensure all applicable regulatory requirements relating to products are met and implements appropriate process changes to resolve any regulatory issues that have been identified.
  • Manages site quality incident program using attention to detail and innovation ensuring investigation and correction action is completed and identified in a manner to improve operations leading to customer satisfaction.
  • In the Technical arena for the site, the incumbent is responsible for:
    • Managing the Customer Management of Change program
  • Smart Quality targets are established in order to measure site performance.
  • Interaction and transfer of product with other locations
  • Recommending changes/improvements in plant design to the Plant Manager in order to improve quality, safety or general efficiency of the operation.
  • In the quality control area, the incumbent is responsible for:
    • Ensure staff training, equipment, and execution is adequate to support the Inspection Plans defining customer requirements.
  • Ensure staff training, equipment, and execution is adequate to support the formulations and testing of all finished products in order to minimize manufacturing delays due to testing and quality requirements.
  • Identifying release requirements for all materials and products.
  • Liaising closely with Sales and Marketing functions on-site quality, testing procedures and customer requirements.
  • Ensuring that nonconforming and dormant materials have active programs to meet site quality goals.
  • In the quality assurance area, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring programs (examples are Six Sigma and ISO 9001) relating to quality operations are implemented and maintained with respect to corporate guidelines and customer requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10 or more years of experience in chemical processing in a technical capacity. 5+ years of experience managing people as a department supervisor/manager.
  • Other important knowledge/experience areas include: Six Sigma, management technical staff, OSHA required programs for chemical safety & hygiene, SDS requirements, use of statistical tools (SPC, DOE, etc.) and experience with customer interactions. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, both oral and written. Efficient in using common computer tools (example Microsoft Office). POSITION/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time exempt position. Standard Office Hours - 6:30am-3:30pm

Some travel may be required.
