JOB BRIEF

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Under the general direction of the Head of Innovation Center, the Applications Chemist will evaluate new high-performance organic pigments for coatings, plastics, and ink markets. The Applications Chemist will formulate new pigments into different application systems and evaluate the pigment dispersions for color and rheology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Will develop working knowledge of organic synthesis, particle physics, color science and statistical analysis.

Optimize formulations for high-performance organic pigments.

Correlate coloristic data to chemical and physical properties.

Correlate coloristic data to process parameters.

Collaborate with Marketing to prepare color displays for customers.

Follow the requirements of ISO certification for all applications procedures.

Actively participate in site safety and environmental programs.

Operate and perform minor maintenance on applications lab equipment.

Maintain housekeeping and compliance with Plant and Lab Safety policies.

All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS Degree in Chemistry or related field required.
  • 5 years of experience in a chemistry lab.
    • Or MS Degree and 2 years of experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Wear proper protective equipment.
  • Possible exposure to contaminants or hazardous conditions while conducting lab work.
  • Sit or stand for an extended period.
  • Be able to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
