GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Under general direction, the incumbent works independently to develop regulatory compliant safety and health programs; develops procedures, training, and audit programs to enhance site safety programs and ensure exceptional performance. Provides back up for other functions within EHS. Actively leads site continuous improvement initiatives.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform health and safety assignments using safety concepts and principles to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety and health hazards for manufacturing, laboratory and maintenance work areas and activities. Areas of focus include manufacturing operations, chemical handling and storage, equipment isolation, fires prevention (including hot work), confined spaces, material handling and emergency response.
  • Conduct incident investigations; in collaboration with internal customers, develop and manage preventative and corrective actions for incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to work area/practice safety audit teams, including 5S teams. Develop written reports for audit activities and track recommendations through to completion.
  • Assist with preparation and implementation of EHS policies and procedures for the Company.• Promote safety culture and assist with achieving established goals by providing leadership and guidance to Site Safety Steering Committee, leading development of innovative and effective behavior-based safety programs.
  • Maintain safety-related recordkeeping consistent with OSHA and state requirements.
  • Participate in hazard reviews, project safety reviews; review and ensure compliance with program elements and documentation for adequacy and completeness, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Apply PSM principles and program elements as appropriate to manufacturing, lab, and pilot scale projects in compliance with OSHA guidelines and regulations. This includes managing a robust PHA program for the site.
  • Provide PSM guidance to engineering, operations, technology, and maintenance personnel; oversee Management of Change system to ensure compliance with OSHA’s PSM regulation.
  • Represent the Safety and Health function on program/project teams. Coordinate with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, risk insurers, internal customers on safety issues.
  • Provide backup for other EHS functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, chemistry, environmental or related field or equivalent work.
  • 5 years of directly related technical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 7+ years of direct experience in the safety field preferred.
  • Experience in reading, interpreting, and applying OSHA regulations, building and fire codes, and related regulations and standards.
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and program elements.
  • Proven experience in applying PSM principles to manufacturing, lab, and pilot scale projects.
  • Ability to manage a robust Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) program for the site.
  • Provide PSM guidance to engineering, operations, technology, and maintenance personnel.
  • Oversee the Management of Change system to ensure compliance with OSHA's PSM regulation.
  • Familiarity with safety practices and protocols in an industrial setting.
  • Practical experience with the development and implementation of health and safety programs related to the chemical manufacturing industry strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills needed to participate in or lead a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively address multiple client service requests and communicate with diverse audiences are required.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office program to generate clearly written reports, data analysis, and effective training.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time exempt position. Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours during the
daytime with the expectation of additional hours required to support a 24/7 operation. This job is not
considered remote.

TRAVEL
Occasional travel may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Industrial and office. Protective clothing, eye protection, hearing protection, hazardous dust mask, and full-face
air purification mask will be required, as needed.
